Hornets Trade LaMelo Ball to Timberwolves in Blockbuster Deal

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — The Charlotte Hornets have agreed to trade star point guard LaMelo Ball and guard Josh Green to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for power forward Naz Reid, an unprotected 2033 first-round draft pick, three first-round pick swaps, and three future second-round picks, according to a person familiar with the agreement.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade has not yet received official approval from the NBA.

Under the deal, the Hornets will receive first-round pick swap rights in 2028, 2029, and 2030, along with second-round draft picks in 2029, 2032, and 2033.

Following the blockbuster trade, Charlotte quickly reached an agreement with guard Coby White on a three-year, $74 million contract. White is expected to become the Hornets’ new starting point guard, according to the same source.

The move marks a significant roster shakeup for both franchises, with Minnesota adding former NBA All-Star LaMelo Ball to strengthen its backcourt while Charlotte acquires Naz Reid and valuable draft assets as part of its long-term rebuilding strategy.

The trade remains pending final approval from the NBA before it can be officially completed.
